PM Surya Ghar Application Rejected? 5 Common Reasons and How to Fix Them

By Sheshnath Vishwakarma · 6 September 2026 · 5 min read

Every week we meet families in Kushinagar whose PM Surya Ghar application was rejected, and almost every time the reason is a small, fixable mistake. The scheme itself is generous: up to ₹1,08,000 subsidy in Uttar Pradesh. But the portal checks your details strictly, and one mismatch can stop everything. Here are the five reasons we see most often, with the fix for each.

1. Name mismatch between Aadhaar, electricity bill and bank account

This is the number one cause. If your electricity connection is in your father's name, your Aadhaar says your name, and the bank account is joint, the DISCOM cannot verify who the applicant is.

Fix: apply in the exact name printed on the electricity bill, and give a bank account in that same name. If the connection holder has passed away, get the connection transferred first (the bijli office calls this name mutation), then apply.

2. Meter number entered instead of consumer number

Your bill has two numbers, and they look similar. The portal wants the consumer number (sometimes printed as Account No. or खाता संख्या), not the meter serial number. Entering the wrong one fails DISCOM verification instantly.

Fix: pick up your latest bill and find the consumer number, usually 10 digits for UPPCL connections. When in doubt, bring the bill to us and we will point it out in ten seconds.

3. Outstanding dues on the electricity connection

Any unpaid balance on your connection disqualifies the application. Even a small arrear from an old bill can block it.

Fix: clear all dues and keep the payment receipt. If your bill shows an arrear you believe is wrong, get it corrected at the DISCOM office before applying, not after.

4. Panels or installer not on the approved list

The subsidy is only paid when a DISCOM-empanelled vendor installs ALMM-listed panels and approved inverters. Some cheap installers use imported panels that are not on the government list. The system works, but the inspection fails and the subsidy is refused, with no appeal.

Fix: before paying anyone an advance, ask two questions: are you empanelled with the DISCOM for PM Surya Ghar, and are the panels ALMM-listed? Any honest vendor will show you proof of both.

5. System size bigger than your sanctioned load

If your connection is sanctioned for 1 kW and you apply for a 3 kW system, the feasibility check fails.

Fix: either apply for a system matching your sanctioned load, or get the load increased first. A load increase in UP is a routine application with a small charge, and we handle it for our customers as part of the paperwork.

Rejected once? You can absolutely apply again

A rejection does not blacklist you. Fix the specific issue, and re-apply on the same portal. The application moves fastest when the name, consumer number, bank account and system size all tell one consistent story.
